CM Punjab’s E-Taxi Scheme to Start in August 2025

Special Quota Reserved for Women, Interest-Free Financing Available

Punjab is set to officially launch the Chief Minister’s E-Taxi Scheme in August 2025, a green initiative aimed at promoting electric transport and creating employment opportunities. The Transport Department has completed all necessary preparations, and the project is ready to begin its first phase soon.
Scheme Overview and Women Quota
Official records reveal that 1,100 e-taxis will be allocated in the initial phase of the project. Out of these, 30 e-taxis are reserved for women to ensure female participation in the public transport sector. Additionally, 100 taxis will be provided to individuals, while 1,000 taxis will go to fleet owners, with each required to purchase a minimum of 10 vehicles.
Online Applications via PITB Portal
Bilal Akbar Khan shared that an online application portal is being developed in partnership with PITB. The process will be simple and user-friendly to make it accessible for all.
Electric Vehicle Suppliers Shortlisted
Nine companies have been shortlisted to provide electric taxis on interest-free, easy installments. These companies will also be responsible for setting up charging stations, spare parts supply, and service centers across the province.
Financial Model and Payment Structure
As per the approved business and financial model, the Punjab Government will pay all registration fees, token taxes, and markup costs on the vehicles.
- Fleet owners must pay 40% down payment, and the remaining cost will be financed by the Bank of Punjab.
- Individual men applicants will pay a 30% down payment, while women applicants will pay 40%.
Official Launch Within Two Weeks
Minister Bilal Akbar Khan announced that the scheme will be officially launched within the next two weeks. All business and operational models have been finalized for smooth implementation.
