Country Faces Extreme Heat, Meteorological Department Says Relief Coming Soon

The Weather Department has alerted the public about an intense heatwave forecasted in Pakistan between May 20 and May 24. During this time, temperatures are predicted to rise 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above the usual levels.
Regions including Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan are likely to see temperatures climb by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, temperatures in central and northern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to rise by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above the average.
Yesterday, many areas across the country experienced scorching heat. The hottest places this season so far were Dadu and Jacobabad, where temperatures reached as high as 48 degrees Celsius. Other cities such as Larkana, Rohri, and Sibi recorded 46 degrees, Peshawar 43 degrees, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Muzaffarabad 41 degrees, Islamabad 39 degrees, Quetta 36 degrees, Karachi 35 degrees, and Gilgit 34 degrees Celsius.
Experts have advised citizens to stay cautious and protect themselves from heat-related illnesses like heatstroke. It is recommended to limit sun exposure, wear hats or cover the head when outdoors, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
The Meteorological Department also cautioned that the upcoming days could be very challenging due to extreme temperatures. The public is urged to follow all safety tips to reduce the risks caused by the severe heat.
