The Government of Pakistan has extended the registration period for the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme (PMYLS) 2025, giving students more time to apply for free laptops. On May 19, 2025, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) announced that the deadline for Phase IV of the scheme has been moved from May 20, 2025, to June 1, 2025, providing an extra 12 days for eligible students to submit their applications.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for a laptop under the PMYLS 2025, students must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a public sector university or degree-awarding institute recognized by the HEC.
- Be studying in one of these programs:
- PhD
- MS/MPhil
- Master’s degree
- Bachelor’s (undergraduate) degree
- Have achieved at least a 2.80 CGPA or 60% marks in their most recent exams.
- For first-year bachelor’s students: Submit Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) results.
- For first-semester MS/PhD students: Provide transcripts from their previous degree.
- Important: Students who have already graduated, even if they applied while enrolled, are not eligible.
Quota Allocations
The scheme ensures laptops are distributed fairly across regions and institutions with specific quotas:
- 18% of laptops are reserved for students from Balochistan to promote inclusivity.
- 5% of laptops are allocated for distance learning students, split equally between:
- Virtual University
- Allama Iqbal Open University
How to Apply?
Students can apply for the scheme through these platforms:
- Online Portal: Visit www.pmyp.gov.pk to register.
- Mobile App: Download the Digital Youth Hub (DYH) app on Android or iOS and submit your application.
Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2025. No submissions will be accepted after this date.
Selection and Merit List Process
Laptops will be awarded based on academic merit within each department to ensure a fair process:
- A provisional merit list will be published on the PMYP website.
- Students have 15 days to raise any issues or objections regarding the list.
- After addressing all concerns, a final merit list will be released, confirming the selected students.
