New Pakistani Currency Notes Set to Be Released by State Bank in 2025?

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will launch new currency notes for all denominations (PKR 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000) starting in late 2025, after July. The goal is to fight counterfeiting and modernize the rupee with better security and fresh designs.

When and How

  • Launch: Second half of 2025, likely after cabinet approval by June 2025.
  • Rollout: Gradual, one denomination at a time. Old notes stay valid for 5 years.
  • Polymer Test: One polymer plastic note to be tested by December 2025.

Major Changes

  • Security: New holograms, thick threads, and foil to stop fakes.
  • Designs: Updated looks from a 2024 art contest, showing Pakistan’s culture. International designers will finalize them.
  • PKR 5,000 Stays: No phase-out, just a redesign.
  • Printing Upgrade: Security Papers Limited is modernizing machines for better quality.
